Rivers & streams

  • The Cairngorms National Park area has a complex radial drainage pattern, with all rivers draining into the North Sea.
  • The Rivers Spey, Dee and Don are among the longest rivers in Scotland, with considerable parts of their catchments lying within the Cairngorms National Park area. These rivers also have some of the highest sources in the UK, that of the Dee being the highest.

  • Headwaters of five other important Scottish east-coast river systems are included in the area – Tay, Findhorn, Deveron and North and South Esks.
