Weather: Spectacles & Hazards

The weather of the Cairngorms National Park is sometimes spectacular, especially in the mountains. The Cairngorm plateau contains some of the highest mountains in Scotland and often experiences gales and hurricane-force winds. There is little shelter in the mountains and the wind blows strong and unhindered during storms.

The mountain environment can be dangerous, with avalanches in winter and flash floods in summer. If you are going to walk or climb in the mountains always make sure you are well equiped and know how to keep yourself safe.
