Climate & Weather

Climate in the Cairngorms National Park is more severe than in other parts of the UK, and the Park’s weather can be unpredictable because of the huge mountain mass in the centre of the Park. Plants and animals living in the Park show special adaptations to these conditions. This section describes the various climatic and weather conditions experienced in the Park, and alludes to the possible impacts of climate change on the Park’s plant and animal communities.

It also highlights some of the weather spectacles found in the Park, from avalanches and flash floods to hurricane winds and broken spectres.
